Bento #91

Bento #91
Top tier: HK shaped jellies with lychee flavoured nata and heart shaped dragonfruits. Bottom tier: Stir fry pork with snow peas & shitake mushroom and shaped rice with denbu toppings.

Finally found the red dragonfruits! Seen 3lilangels having it in the bento and I was unable to find it till now. L likes it as much as the white one. Z is funny, he doesn't take the white one but like this. rolleyes To me, both taste the same leh...

My girl asked for jelly since last week and I finally have the 'mood' to do it for her. I am so lazy nowadays.razz I felt bad actually... LZdaddy commented he hasn't eaten jelly for a while and he was happy when he saw that I prepared it. But I only allowed him to eat few pieces of it cos the cute designs are for LZ. So mean hor?

Jacss & Angeleyes were asking what is denbu in bento #89. This is the one that I used and it is fish powder (correct me if I'm wrong).

Bento #46

Bento #46
Top: Soba sauce in container. From left: Banana in banana case, soba with bear shaped seaweed sprinklers, gyoza, spring onion (in yellow container) & edamame.

Most of the time when we go to Japanese restaurant, LZ must order cold noodles, especailly Z. Yesterday, Z asked me to prepare cold noodle for lunch before going to the hospital and I did but I didn't have time to prepare for L and she have lunch outside with LZdaddy. Feeling guilty, I decided to prepare it for her bento today.smile
Photobucket

L was very happy to see that I packed today bento into her High School musical lunch box. I can't put in the banana case so what did I do? I used a string to tie it to the bag.wink

This is the other ice pack(about my hand size) that I often use and it can last longer than the one I bought from Daiso and I put it into the bento bag. L told me her soba & the sauce were still very chilled when she had it during recess. Below the soba, I also placed a small ice pack (from Daiso) so that the soba will be chilled too.

For the soba sauce, I freeze it but not to the extend when it becomes hard, hopefully you know what I mean. Hehehe... Hope this info helped for those of you who are keen to pack cold noodles for their bento. smile

Simple Bento #45

Photobucket
Sandwich wrapped in foil, shaped sausages and papaya.

Just a simple bento coz I'm feeling tired. Alice was asking where I get the energy now that my boy is on MC. Yes, I do feel very tired but I have to be fair to my girl. I'm afraid she may feel neglected now that I spent so more time taking of Z. So no matter what, I try to prepare bento as least 2 or 3 times a week. With Z at home now, actually I have more time. I don't have to rush to cook and fetch him after school. I feel tired coz I'm on call 24 hr a day entertaining my boy! Hahaha....

We still have some leftover ham and L doesn't mind having ham sandwich. I tried the sausage cutter but failed and you can tell looking at it. I can't remember if I posted the ice pack before... Anywhere, here's one of the small ice pack that I use and I normally put 2 in the bag if I'm packing cold stuffs. You can try getting it at Daiso. I find that this can't last for too long, maybe about 1+ hour. At least it works for my bento so far. I will try to post the other ice pack that I use also.

Life Science - Little Doctors (Holiday Programme)

Before the start of the school holiday, LZ have been asking what have I planned for them. How I wished we could just do nothing at all... But being kids, and the active ones, they wouldn't take that. I have signed them for a few programmes and of coz I asked for their opinion and which one interest them :)

Today they went for their 1st holiday programme, Life Science - Little Doctor. This workshop is cater for children between 5 to 10 yrs old. So what have they learned from the workshop? They know more about their body parts, what is inside our body (lungs, liver heart etc) and what are their function. Besides doing worksheets, they also did art & craft of a stethoscope and a little booklet of the body parts.

When we talked about what have they learnt, the first things they told me was what was stethoscope for. Then they excitedly showed me the worksheets, L was so proud that she scored full marks for that! Z didn't get full marks but at least he tried to answer the questions and not forgetting that he is only 4 1/2 yrs old :) They also showed me the little booklets that they made and 'explained' to me about the contents and the function of our body parts. It was fun listening to them :)

L showed interest in it and I must credit it to the recent book that she has been reading, The Magic School Bus -Inside The Human Body (by Joanna Cole & Bruce Degen). Check out their website HERE, they have games, simple science projects and other stuffs for kids. She loves the story and I intend to buy more of the series. She found out about this book when her friend bought a copy of it during the Book Fair that was held in school. She told me she read a few pages and she wanted to have the book. When comes to books, we never say no to our kids.

I'm glad that both my kids show interest in Science, unlike me :p Because of them, I think I better start reading too! Hahaha...

Why I....

Since LZ were in Childcare (before I changed their school), I have tried preparing snacks (bento look alike) for them to bring to school. I decided then that when they go to primary school, I will prepare bento for them. Knowing bento will appeal more to them, they love Japanese food, home cooked food is better and of coz, my cooking ;)

I have talked to L and asked her opinion. She loves the idea! I know my girl supports me, whatever I suggest :) As for Z, I'm not sure if he likes that when he goes to P1, for now, he likes it whenever he has bento(prepared by me). I don't see boys bringing bento to school. When time comes, I will ask him.

Maybe when L goes to P2/3, she may not want me to pack it for her. I don't know.... As children grow older, they may feel 'embarrass' about bringing food to school or they want to be independant. Meantime, I enjoy preparing food for them :) I am new in preparing bento and hope I can do it better for them.

Some of you were asking me about the egg mould and asked if I could show the pics. Sorry it took so long....

A Toy?

What do you think? Is this a toy or a real handphone?

It is a indeed a real handphone! ;-) Daddy was the owner of this hp for only 2 days. He can't get used to it so he sold it to someone else. When he first brought it home, I laughed! I thought it was a toy. It is very small in size, palm size. It reminds me of the old days when people use a bigger version of this. This hp has most of the functions and it is also a camera phone. Cool right?

Do I keep Their Drawings?

Last week, Huisia asked if I keep L's drawings. I do keep LZ's artwork. I thought it would be nice to share with mommies how I keep their artwork.
LZ's art filesIf it is a craft piece, I keep all in their boxes (I bought it from Ikea)and if they are still intact after playing. For their drawings, I bought the A3 size files to keep them.

Gameboy

Everytime we go out, I will have their handheld gameboys with me. Life has been easier for me now that they have the games :) I have set rules for them and so far, they do follow it.

  • They can't play while walking
  • NO playing in the house
  • NO playing while eating
  • They can't lie down to play their games
  • When they misbehave, I will take away their gameboy.
  • When told to turn it off, they will have to

They don't play for hours, half hour is the max.... Some people I know don't agree with me giving them this. Personally, I think it is ok if they follow the rules and they are not obsessed with it.

Emergency Preparedness Day

@ the party
After attending the Twins (Ying & Hui) birthday party, We joined in the fun that was organised by our council...

We saw how the Civil Defence did during a mock terrorist attack, how they did a chemical wash, play games etc... LZ may be too young to understand it, but I find it very interesting to know how can we play a part if such a thing happen and I learned CPR. You may never know what will happen the next day so it is better to be ready than sorry later.

LZ enjoyed the puzzle games very much and the bouncers too. Besides giving out lots of goodies, we have many bottles of the Newater too. It was very sweet of our neighbour to give us the vouchers and goodies, like I said before, my neighbours like LZ alot... If not for them, I don't think I will be talking so much to our neighbours or attend any of these events. :)

An Idea TO Share

An idea to share:

L would ask for a alphabet. Then they will start thinking of words that begin with that letter ( L will try to spell it out & didi follows). Z joins in the fun too. They would look around the surroundings. Sometimes I told them to find animals that begin with that alphabet or numbers that begin with that alphabet.. Or you can name something, eg: school/pasta(what goes into the pasta). Then they will think of words that are related to it. We have lots of fun doing it. We may be at home doing it or while walking to/from school. Hope you will have fun doing it too. :)
