Random Stuffs About L & Z

7th Feb 2012 - Maths

Who like Maths besides daddy?  That would be my Z!   Z loves maths!  Often, he is able to solve the problem sums on his own but he is lazy at times.

But the problem with him is that his mind drift away sometimes when doing homework.  That's why I was delighted when I know he likes chess.  Chess supposed to help him to be more focus.

10th Feb 2012 - Missing

Z had CCA today but because he forgot to bring his 二胡,  he didn't dare to turn up at the CO (Chinese Orchestra) room!   I didn't know till teacher called to tell me he was not there.  I panicked!   Wondering what happen to my son?  I told the teacher I am pretty sure that he was in school and asked if they have checked the school compound.   To my relieved, they found him!   They paged for him through PA and he turned up at the office!   Phew!  I was so worried!   By the time the teacher called, I was already on my way to school, with his 二胡.

When he was back home, I had a chat with him.   He told me he didn't dare turn up for training was because he was afraid his CO teacher would scold him.  The training has been very intense lately...  They even assigned one teacher to coach him as they were preparing him for SYF (Singapore Youth Festival).

13 Feb 2012 - SYF

Officially received the letter from school that Z is selected to represent school for the upcoming SYF!   Being new in the CO, I was surprised that Z is selected! No wonder they have a teacher assigned to coach him personally.

It was a triple joy coz L will be representing school too for Choir!   Besides that, she is appointed the choir leader (since beginning of this year)! Yay!

Subject Combination & Higher Chinese

Based on L's result, the school recommended her to take Higher Chinese next year.   I wasn't very keen for her to take an additional paper next year.  What if she failed terribly and affect her moral and interest in Chinese?  She has been in the Higher Chinese class all these years but I am not confident that she will do well as paper will be much tougher.

After talking to L and one of the Chinese teachers in school, we decided to let her try.   She knows she will have to work extremely hard for her Chinese. One good news is that she made it to the top class again!  We are soooo PROUD of her!

A little update on Z...  He made it to the 2nd top class!   He did very well for all subjects except Chinese.  Because of that, he was very disappointed he can't be in the top class.   We were rather shocked with his Chinese result, as all this time he was doing fine.  Well, top class or not,  my kids will have to work hard to strive for better results next year.

Well done my babies!

PTS - LZ

This year PTM (Parents-Teacher-Meeting) is quite unlike from the past 2 years.  We need only go to 1 place for the meeting and we arranged the timing one after another.   We looked forward to getting their results (we already knew their papers results but not the overall results).

This is Z's FIRST exams and PTM (primary school).  We heard very positive comments from Z's teachers about him.  He has made us proud!  He scored more than 90% for all his subjects, including Chinese!  He scores full marks for English oral composition "My hobby - drawing".   He brought along his best art piece and presented to his class.  For Chinese, I think he did quite well, otherwise I don't think he will scores more than 90%.  It was 我最喜欢的水果- 西瓜。He brought along a big slice of watermelon for the oral which he finished in class. Haha..

Z's form teacher said he is a very helpful boy who often helps those that need help in their studies.  She also said that he is very obedient and focus in class.  The only thing that he needs to improve on is to remember to hand in papers that we need to sign on time.  Oops!! We are at fault...

I remembered my boy often tells me he wants to get all the badges and he strives to be a good student and do well in his studies.  He hopes he will be appointed as a prefect when he goes to P3.   Looks like my boy is trying his best to work towards his dream.

My girl did well for her exams too!  What surprises me was her Science!  She was the 3rd highest for Science.. Honestly, I thought she may fail it coz the night before the paper, she was rushing to finish the topics. We were so worried....  She was not confident with the Science paper at all and kept telling what if she fails and she can't find her Science textbook the day before the exams!  It is so unlike her... I told her to try her best and even if she scores just above 50%, I know she did her best. She listed Science as her least preferred subject before exams and now, it is her 2nd favourite (Maths is her favourite). Haha....

L did very well for her Maths too!  I better mention that LZdaddy was the one who coach her on both the subjects.  Hehe...  We pulled her out from the Maths tuition this year and decided that LZdaddy would coach her on these 2 subjects. I think we made the right move.  Yes, even though he travels often, he makes efforts to coach her whenever he is in town.

The other 2 subjects that I helped her with, the results drop a little.  And we send her for tuition for these 2 subjects!  I am thinking of switching her to another tuition center or perhaps she should spend more time at home and I coach her.  According the teachers, it is expected that these 2 subjects to drop a little.  Sweetie, mommy is very sorry...

Overall, we are very HAPPY with our Babies' results.  LZ hope they will score better than this mid year exams and I know my babies will do their best.

Last Day In Kindy & Progress Report

It was the last day for me to pick Z up from the kindy....  This year was not easy for me when I had to fetch or send Z during my confinement (at times), when I had to bring Beanie along when he was a newborn and especially when it was raining.  I am grateful to the teachers and aunties (from school) to help me out at times.

I know Z gonna miss his friends and the playground.  Yup, the playground too.  The school has new playground and everyday (almost) for the past weeks,  we stayed back a little while so Z can play with his classmates.

On the other hand, he looks forward to primary school. He wants to buy food on his own, go to the bookshop, meet new friends etc... He has heard so much from his sister about primary school life that he can't wait to check it out himself. I am looking forward to next year too coz I can pick up my older babies from one place.

We are very happy with his progress report and we know he has done well.  Below is what the the Principal (she is also his teacher) wrote:

Z tries his best in his work and has given excellent work this term.  He will be able to meet the challenges in primary one with confidence.  We will miss you and Jesus loves you.

K2 Open House

Today is a day that all of of us look forward to! We have not been inside the school for a long time and I thought there won't be any open house this year due to H1N1.  Z was definitely very excited about it, he told LZdaddy "Daddy, make sure you don't have to work this Saturday ok!  You have to come to my school to see my work." He need not tell me anything, coz he knows I will be there.*proud mommy*  I won't want to miss out anything that concern my kids.

Few days ago, he mentioned his teacher told him to bring some muffins for the open house.  I said "Huh?  Why?  Did she ask others to bring food too?"  He said the others were not told and he has no idea why and insisted that I bake some for today but I did not. Hmmmm...  I was extremely tired lately coz Beanie has been waking up often in the night.  Anyway, I thought he probably misunderstood the teacher, it could be the teacher told him to bring it for Teacher's Day.  When we were there, I don't see anyone brought food.

Back to the Open House. As soon as we arrived at his classroom, he showed us where his work was displayed.  LZdaddy came in slightly later coz he needed to park the car and he showed him his work again.  We also looked through his workbook and I was impressed with the work he did! He did lots of creative writing, compared to L 2 years ago.  Btw, they have the same teachers and use the same classroom.

We talked to his teachers about his performance.  His main Teacher told us he was impressed with Z's reading skills. She told us that was what she noticed about him since beginning of the year.  She also said Z is a very quiet boy, obedient, able to write well and doesn't ask question.  Hmmm.... That I am concern...  This is not good when he goes to P1.  He needs to voice out when he is not sure.  Looks like I need to encourage him to speak up more often.

Then when I talked to the Principal, she said Z's reading skill is not that good but she does agree that Z is a very good boy.  I chose to agree with his main teacher about his reading skill not because she said better things about my boy but I have faith and am very sure about his reading skill.
Some of his work on display

We spoke to his Chinese teacher too.  She said Z tends to speak to his own group of friends only (he know them since K1) most of the time.  To encourage him to mix around with others, she changed their seats so that he mix around with others and it worked out well.  I appreciate the teacher's efforts.  Look through his Chinese file and not too bad but we still have to put in effort to make it better.

Overall, we are happy with his performance.  We just have to put in efforts in his weakness and prepare him for P1 next year.

Chinese Enrichment Performance - Z (July)

I was late for the performance coz I was informed last minutes. As usual, teacher said Z is doing well (sometimes I wonder how true) but he needs to put in more effort for hanyupinyin. I plan to sign him up for the hanyupinyin class at year end to help him which the teacher recommended. He should be prepared for P1 next year. Gosh! My boy going to P1 next year!

Z's Progress Report

Z gave me his Progress Report Book couple of days ago and I forgot to record it in the blog.

Z is doing very well in school. The other day when I spoke to his Principal, who is his teacher too, she complimented that Z is very keen in learning, his handwriting is very neat and he is very focus. I told her that Z always to look forward to doing the class enrichment book. One of the things he likes to do is Creative Writing. I am actually quite surprised that teacher already started teaching them this.

What surprises me was teacher rated him A (Very Good) for 'possess leadership qualities'. This is something new about my boy. Generally, he did very well for this semester except his Chinese. He needs help to 'articulate thoughts in complete sentences' and 'to relate pics and its contents'. We need to put in more efforts with his Chinese.

Remarks from teacher:

Z is a bright and quiet boy. He is eager to learn, expressive and enjoys all classroom activities.

Conduct: Excellent.

Well done my boy! Mommy is very happy to know that you are enjoying school.

Chinese Enrichment Performance - Z

I haven't seen Z in Chinese Class for quite some time. I looked forward to this since last week! I missed my coffee sessions with one of the mommies too. Hehehe...

Teacher told me Z is doing very well and is willing to speak more mandarin. That's a good news! He is very chatty nowadays and he even told teacher about his little brother.

Z is in the back, wearing blue t-shirt. I would have recorded the attire performance but I was carrying ZJ. I left my helper in the car coz there wasn't any lot for me.

What Was He Reading?

Recorded on 19th Jan 2009

This was recorded while jiejie had her swimming lesson. Actually Z was reading this book on the way to the pool. I asked him to read it again when we arrived coz I wanted to record it for LZdaddy. He knew I like it when he read it so he doesn't mind reading it again and again for me so I can laugh. Remember? He said that when I laugh, it means that didi is laughing too. Well done my boy!

We always have books in the car so they can read while I am driving or waiting. L left this book in the car few days ago after school (she is to be bring Chinese storybooks on Thurs & Fri). After reading, he didn't understand what was the story about and jiejie explained to him. Hmmmm.. Looks like I have to start teaching him汉语拼音 since now he has the interest to read Chinese storybooks. I am so happy that Z takes the initiative to read it! It is a book on 西 游记, one of my BIL gave the whole series to us. Honestly, I never thought they would be interested to read it.

Z does not know all the words so he uses 'hanyupinyin' (his phonics knowledge) to sound out the words. Below is what he read:

牛魔王赴宴回来, 来到芭蕉洞, 得知悟空抢了扇子, 大怒, 赶紧去追。
牛魔王看见孙悟空扛着大扇子得意洋洋地走在前面,准备来个以牙还牙。

What Z Says

While I was resting after giving L some Maths paper to do, Z asked me to go through jiejie's P1 flashcards with him. When comes to this kind of things, like reading, I never say no to my kids and especially when Z shows interest in Chinese.

He was doing pretty alright till I showed him the card with the word '' 鹅 ''

Me: 这是什么?
Z: 这是 !
M:Huh?! 什么 ?!

Then he pointed the word separately to me! Hahaha.... We couldn't stop laughing (LZdaddy was with us)! He finds it funny too and started laughing.lol

Next,

Me: 这是什么?
Z: 月月!
M: Hahaha... No no! 这是 朋友的朋.

So does your child do that too? smile

Chinese Enrichment End Of Term Performance - Z

It was time to watch Z in action again for Chinese enrichment. wink This term they were taught the items used in school and also about school. 例如: 黑板擦,剪刀,尺, 等等。They also went through the animals that they learned for the past term and managed to read a passage about it. I think he did pretty well except the slang when he speaks mandarin.smile I am pretty happy with what they taught him, besides teaching him Chinese, they taught him manners too. Here are some of the video clips of him.

爸爸再见, 妈妈再见
小兴兴上学了。

好学生,有礼貌
看见老师说声早
看见同学问声好
上学从来不迟到

For now, his favourite Chinese song is this: You will notice that he sings very loud.smile

当我们都在一起 在一起 在一起
当我们都在一起, 真快乐无比。
你对着我笑嘻嘻 我对着你笑哈哈
当我们都在一起, 真快乐无比。

After the class, we finally went to have his haircut which has been long overdue. razz The teacher advised him to have his haircut before his BIG day this Saturday!

My Little Gor Gor

Photobucket

I just realised I haven't been writing much about Z. Unlike L, I have updating her bit & pieces while posting her bento-s.

Z has always been very interested in art. Lately, he has been drawing lots of dinosaurs. He will try to copy from the dino poster that we have and explained to me what kind of dinos is he drawing. I know he misses his art lesson but I really don't have the energy and time to send him for the classes. Maybe I will try to arrange it during school holidays or let him draw and paints more at home.

Talking about dinos, he is still as crazy as before about his dino cards he collected from playing at Time Zone. Almost everyday he will asks if he is a good boy and if I say yes, he will ask to go there.

Academic wise, I think he is doing pretty good. He enjoys reading and likes to leave storybooks in my car so he can read while waiting for jiejie or while I am driving. He reads at home too. I think his reading skills has improved. He loves Maths and mental sums. He likes it when I let him do mental calculation. Sometimes when we are walking or on the bed, he will asks us(including jiejie) to give him addition and subtraction sums. I actually like his handwriting but the teacher is very strict. She expects Z to do better than that. You can take a look at his writing HERE.

Sometimes, he surprises me by taking his Chinese storybooks to read with him. I thought I would have to be the one to do that.smile I remembered he told me that he prefers his Chinese enrichment class to his reader class.

He is getting along very well with his classmates. There's this girl in his class that he likes to talk about, Jolene. LZdaddy often sees her greets Z and helps him put his things and some other girls did the same too. He gets along very well with the boys too. Like Joash, Nathanial and Jordon.

He can relate very well to me what happen everyday in school, which I am so glad. I remembered I used to have to ask him but not anymore. He has plenty to say, especially now that they are preparing for the concert. He told me who get scolding and for what reasons. Hahaha....

He likes playing with our hp games and he is an 'expert' when comes to games. LZdaddy downloaded a few games and before any of us can figure it out, he already knows how to play.

His favourite character for now would be Ben1o. He likes to watch the Ben1o cartoon too. Whenever we go to the mall, we will see him looking out for new toys from Ben1o. Cars (Hotwheels) & trains (Thomas & Friends) are still his favourites too besides Ben10. He can spend a long time fixing up the tracks for both.

His favourite colour is GREEN. He has many shirts and t-shirts in all shades of green. Whenever we go out, he wants to choose green clothes and sometimes, it takes me a while to coax him to wear others. When he has snacks, he wants to use his favourite bowl (from Ikea), in green too! lol

About a month ago, Z 'pop' the question to me "Mommy, will you marry me when I grow up?" Hahaha.... My boy is so 'in love' with me. biggrin He is a charmer! He likes to give me compliments. "Mommy, you look good in this. Wear this more often for me ok?" , "You are so pretty" and more. Once I asked him "Will you still love mommy as much as now when you have a girlfriend when you are grown up?" Yeah.... Me asking silly question.mrgreen He said he will! Oh yes! He said he will buy me a BIG ring when he earns money. Hahaha.... He saw me wearing a diamond ring from LZdaddy and that's why he said he wants to buy me one. He also said he will buy a sport car for LZdaddy and many pretty toys for jiejie. Such a sweet boy....

Food wise, I think he is slightly better than before. He is more willing to eat leafy veggie now coz he said he wants a happy mommysmile and I try to mix together with other stuffs. He likes to eat mee fen more than yellow noodle now. Fish and meat is still his favourites. He likes steamed fish and stir fry fish especially. One thing that I really love about him is that when he is sick, he knows he can't eat chocolate or fried food, he will not eat it and remind me not to fry any food stuffs. Very discipline hor?

Seems like a perfect boy, isn't he? Nope! He can be very messy at times and very 'spoilt' by jiejie and LZdaddy. Nowadays whenever I ask him to pack, he will take his own sweet time or get them to pack up his toys while he walks around. That makes me so mad! I have to threaten to raise my voice and him and he will start doing it. He doesn't like to be shout at. In the mornings, it is quite difficult to wake him up. Sometimes, it will takes me more than 15 mins to wake him!

The rest that I used to mention about him is still about the same and he hasn't change much. I am glad I write on these down and hope I didn't miss out any.smile I may not be able to remember all these little details when I am old and at least he gets to read about it.smile My handsome boy, you have brought so much joy to us and we love you! biggrin

School Open House - Z

23rd August 2008

His handwritten invite for us

Z has been very excited with the School Open House this year. The teacher taught them how to write aninvite for us. Ever since he brought home the piece of paper, he has been reading it to us and requested me to put it up on the wall, for fear that we forgot about it. smile

He was so excited to the extend that he asked me if he can choose what he wants to wear for the day and he has been asking me for the past few days! Hahaha... So in the morning, he excitedly chose what he wants to wear and asked if he looks good. Of coz he does! biggrin

2 of his works that was on display

Before we go, LZdaddy and I knew that he wouldn't have many work on display coz he has been absent from school for a long period of time and my boy knew it too. It was very sweet of the teacher to try to let him complete as much as possible so that he doesn't feel left out. We actually stayed back a while longer on one of the school days so he can do a little more.

When we arrived, Z happily showed us, of coz Jiejie too, his works. He explained to us what he drew and what he had written. When we saw some of the worksheets he did, we were very impressed! I asked him did he do it with teacher's help or he did it on his own, he proudly told me he did all of it on his own without teacher's help. I think it was wrong of me to doubt him... We also went over to L's old classroom to say hello to her ex-teachers and have a look at what the k2s did.

Pics taken with Z's works, with jiejie & LZdaddy and Z decorating the egg

Just when we were about to leave, Z approached Ms B to remind her the egg decoration that she promised him on Friday. So we stayed a little longer so he can decorate his egg. Through this, I noticed my boy has become more vocal, he is more willing to speak up/ask. smile

LZ @ Indulge at Park

After the 'tour' of his work, my boy brought drinks for us.smile Since it was raining heavily, we decided to head home for a nap (more for me actually, hehehe) and head off for buffet at Indulge at Park @ Grand Plaza Hotel. Wow! The buffet spread was great and with my favourite cheese spread! We were back home in time to watch Liverpool against Middlesbrough. What a match! biggrin
